Villa Vista Dorada
—A rental villa above the Caribbean, on the coast of Honduras—
In Trujillo, Honduras
It may be hard to find Villa Vista Dorada, a private home located above Trujillo in a neighborhood of dirt roads and friendly local children, but once there you can’t but appreciate the fantastic view and great architecture of the Spanish Colonial-styled villa owned by a part-time resident from the United States. The villa has three bedrooms (one bedroom with queen bed, one
with queen bed and single bed, and one with double bed) with commodious living spaces and an unbelievable covered terrace with classical columns that you won’t want to leave.
There is a wonderful garden of tropical plants and fruit trees with cobblestone paths that lead to the Cristales River below the house. The river, depending on the season, is either a trickle or a thunder tumbling through the rocks as it falls to the sea. There are lemons, oranges, grapefruits, starfruit, guanabana, avocados, papayas, coconuts and more in the orchard. Gingers, heliconias, hibiscus, ferns and a myriad of flowers grace the garden.
Use of a private beach property just west of town, 560 feet of private beach protected by a guard house, with thatched roof champa on the beach with basic shower, is included. Full time cook/maid, gardener, night-time guard and supervisor are part of the package. Spend the day on the beach, and the glorious mornings watching birds fly below the terrace, and evenings with drinks while you watch the magnificent sunset.
On clear days you can see twenty miles of beach, the Cayos Cochinos, Guanaja, and Roatan from the terrace. The staff will help you shop for groceries at the market, and assist you in buying seafood from local fishermen and lobster divers. You can take a thermal bath at Aguas Calientes just outside of town, or drive down dirt roads to Garifuna fishing villages. Check with Turtle Tours at the Villa Brinkley just a few blocks away, and they will arrange hiking tours in the mountain park behind the town. Visit the historic Spanish fort in the town, or just relax on the terrace and read in a hammock.
Rates are $120/day for up to 4 people and $20/day extra for a 5th or 6th person. Weekly rates are $600 for 4 people. It is expected that you will tip the servants. Great breezes, ceiling fans in every room and three fans on the terrace, but no air conditioning.
If you have an even bigger group, there is also available a nice apartment below the house with queen bed and a great view that would increase the capacity to 8 people. The apartment is available separately for weekly or monthly rental of $150/week or $500/monthly. This is Trujillo’s luxury option.
